What’s Wrong With My Thermostat?

Does your home seem really hot but the thermostat reads 73? Or does the temperature feel nice and cool but the thermostat says it’s 82? Here are some possible things that could be going on.

Our expert technicians are here for youSchedule Online Today

Improper Installation

Some thermostats need to be level to read your home’s temperature properly, so if yours was installed wrong or got knocked out of place, you may just need to make sure to put it back where it’s supposed to be.

Dirt

If the sensor on your thermostat is dirty, it won’t be able to get an accurate reading of your home’s temperature. Clean it by removing the cover and dusting it with a soft brush.

Poor Location

If your thermostat is not centrally located, is in direct sunlight or near drafts, it won’t be able to get an accurate reading. Make sure your thermostat is at least 5 feet above the floor and in an area away from sun, vents, or outside doors.

Outdated

If you have an older thermostat, it could be reaching the end of its life. Consider upgrading to a newer smart or programmable model like a WiFi thermostat for an accurate temperature reading. These are more expensive than a traditional thermostat but you’ll end up saving money on energy bills.
